My Little Helper
Today Luke was hanging out in the kitchen before preschool while I was making some food for Cam. He opened up the dishwasher, saw the clean silverware inside and then asked me to open the drawer and pull out the utensil holder (I'm trying to remember what words he used because I'm pretty sure he doesn't know to call it a "utensil holder"). Anyway, to my astonishment, without being asked or me showing him how, he started putting all the silverware away from the dishwasher. I just stared at him, blinking because I could hardly believe my eyes. No grabbing the forks and sticking them in the gap between the floor and the baseboards, no licking the spoons, no fancy karate moves with the knives. He just put them away. When he was finished, he proudly came to the table and announced that he was "all done!".
My son did a chore. And I didn't even ask him to.
Now I know that in reality the utensil holder looks terrible (although he mostly got it right). But to me, this is the most beautiful utensil holder I could ever imagine. I'd be cool if it looked like this EVERYDAY!

Amazing! Luke just earned a million gold stars in my book. I asked Jude to put the silverware away today and he just flat told me, "No!" Looks like I need a few more lessons from you! Wish we lived closer so I could!
Can he come teach my kids that part about, "...without my asking him to!!"
wow, that really IS incredible! what a good boy! And so proud of his accomplishment, I'm sure! :)
Isn't that so great! They always surprise us don't they. Luke, you are a smart boy. Keep helping out, O.K.--Grandma McCann
