Random videos

The fam has requested longer videos of Luke. So here it goes.

In this video, Luke and I play one of our favorite games. Whenever I chase him (the "I'm gonna get you" game), he runs away for a few feet and then turns around and runs towards me. It always cracks me up. He may be the only kid I've ever met who thoroughly enjoys being "caught".

And this one is Luke helping me mop the floor. He loves to help me with chores. He also loves to suck on this toothbrush at all times (including when he mops the floor)... I have to pick my battles... the toothbrush will not be one of them.

Happy Birthday Luke...again

We have a friend who is building a portfolio for her photography business. She wanted to take some test shots of a one-year old destroying a birthday cake. Luke was happy to oblige.

Natsukashii

Today marks 5 years since I went to the MTC and became a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints [can you tell that i really like celebrating anniversaries...this should be the last one for a while though]. Here's my cheer squad who dropped me off:

I like to remember this day because of the HUGE lessons that I learned from doing something that I never planned on doing in a million years.

Lesson No.1

Heavenly Father has waaaaay better things in store for you than you could possibly dream up for yourself. Not to say that the road He would take you down is easier by any means.

Before realizing that going on a mission was the right thing for me, I was VERY stubborn about how I wanted my life to turn out. I thought that 22.5 was definitely too old to change my plans and I had a perfectly handsome, wonderful guy who seemed to like me a lot. But after a few extremely humbling experiences, I realized that I was ready to hand the reigns over to someone else...maybe He could fix the mess I had made of things...and He did. I can't believe how He figured out the absolute perfect new game plan for my life.

Lesson No. 2

Heavenly Father can help you be excited about things that terrify you if you ask for help.

I remember briefly considering a mission when I turned 21, but the idea of it made me sick to my stomach. The long hours, talking to strangers everyday, being away from everything comfortable...No thanks. But when I felt strongly impressed that it was the right thing to do (years later), I found that I was actually excited to do it. I must have felt a little scared to go to a foreign country, learn a difficult language, try to teach something important to me while speaking that difficult language, etc., but I honestly don't remember those feelings at all. I must have swallowed a HUGE dose of courage and it didn't come from me.

Lesson No. 3

Things that are hard are also the things that mean the most to you.

I don't think a day has gone by that I haven't thought about my mission or felt the influence of my mission. It absolutely changed who I am. It means so much to me that I honestly can't do it justice on a blog post. All the hard times pale in comparison to all the amazing good times.

Right outside the window of my last apartment.

I was teaching Sister Nakano how to do yoga on our futons.

Happy Birthday Alek!

I can't even believe that this crazy kid is turning 17 today.

When he was born I became an aunt for the first time (at only 10 years old! we're actually closer in age than I am to most of my siblings)

We love you Alek and are so proud of the person you are becoming (that goes for all our nieces and nephews--they all rock)

He's a cutie...watch out ladies!

A Little Guest

Our friend Amy has been terribly ill with morning sickness [actually, in her case its more like "try to not kick the bucket before having the baby"...but only Amy could appreciate that comment]. This being the case, we have had the pleasure of welcoming a little guest in our home every so often. I just wanted to keep Amy informed as to what the boys have been up to.

First of all, this is Luke's face for about the first hour of Will's visit. He is perma-grin and giggling with excitement the whole time. It is like a rockstar is gracing us with his presence. He is supposed to take a nap but absolutely refuses when he knows that Will is downstairs.

Last week, we went to the zoo. Sorry, most of my pictures with the goats ended up as Will with his eyes closed. Or maybe he's doing an impression of the goat...I'm not sure.

Luke followed Will around everywhere and had to try out everything that Will did. It was also my first experience with a double stroller. It took some ingenuity to get it into my car but I was pretty happy to have it with these two boys running in all different directions.

Amy's trash can must be under the sink because Will, being a very polite little boy, always throws his trash under my sink (our trash can isn't under the sink).

I thought that I finally found something that Will wanted to eat! Peanut Butter Captain Crunch isn't the healthiest choice around but I was sure it was working. Then I realized that Will was throwing them to Luke who was eating them all up. What a friendship!

I did get Will to try some green smoothie. But after a few gulps, he figured it out and was done.

This is Luke after Will returns home. He takes the best nap of his life! Thanks Amy, for letting us have the little rockstar as our guest!

p.s.

Here is a really short clip of the one of the boys' favorite pastimes. I wish I had a better video of it. They have managed to figure out a way to share the walker.
