Global Cooling

Lets just call it what it really is.

Just when I was thinking of complaining about the cloudy cold whether that has captured Columbus rather prematurely, I have had a change of heart.

Instead, I would like to tell you how much I love Columbus and why I am so grateful that we live here. Its true, I don't plan on seeing the sun much between the months of November to March. (maybe this year October-March). But there are so many wonderful things about living here too.
  • There are so many beautiful neighborhoods with tree-lined streets...the kind of neighborhoods that you can imagine settling down in and raising your children for 30 years.
  • Metro parks everywhere (seriously, I'm amazed at how many there are for a rather urban area) that feature bike paths, lakes, rivers, gardens, etc...all free of charge.
  • Quaint areas like German Village, Grandview and the Short North that are fun places to go window shopping or check out a new restaurant.
  • Crazy football fans who all wear red the day before and the day of the game...no matter where they are. They bring new meaning to the term "team spirit".
  • The people are by far the best feature. There are so many GOOD people here. People that believe in strong families and being generous with others. People who love God and do the best they can to live good and honest lives. People who have the integrity to live their convictions.
I could go on, but I think I would start basically repeating the same main points. Above all, Columbus is dear to us because of the great friends we have here. Really, the people that we are surrounded by influence us to be so much more than we could be on our own. I'm so grateful that we can spend this time of our lives in Columbus. Honestly, the idea of settling down anywhere for 30 years scares me to death and I don't know how or if we'll ever do it. But I think its safe to say that Columbus would be a good place for someone capable of such a feat (just plan on a nice, warm, tropical vacation every winter).

While I am definitely tempted to complain about the cold ... this is a great reminder to think positively!! I need to count my blessings!! Thanks! :)

It's so true! This was such a great post. I love how it was inspired by the opposite feelings! And speaking of quaint little neighborhoods, are you still up for trying out some pastries? And thanks for reminding me how good the people of Columbus are. I've kind of had an experience opposite to what you describe, but there is nothing better than being reminded that the other side exists. And it is motivating - it makes me want to look for the good :) - so thank you for that!!

And I totally agree - the great friends we are surrounded by have made it so much easier to be away from everywhere else I'd love to be. I don't know why we ended up in Columbus, but I'm grateful we did...

I love that you love it. I just worry you'll be so comfortable in big "C" that you'll never come out to visit Sac town.

I will always love Columbus for so many reasons, but most of them were the same as you. Part of my heart will always be in Columbus.
