2010 Goals

I don't expect this to be of any particular interest to anyone, but last year, I ended up only following through on the goals that I told people about. So maybe publishing a few of our MOST IMPORTANT goals on this blog will motivate us to keep going. Most of these goals are of a religious nature. Normally I don't tell people about these kinds of goals which is why I think I normally fall short. You have our complete permission to ask us how we are doing and ridicule us to tears if we are failing miserably.

In no particular order...

  • Read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year. (Quarterly deadlines: March 31 -Mosiah; June 30 -Alma 30; September 30-3 Nephi; December 31 -the end).
  • Read scriptures or other religious book as a family 4 times a week.
  • Go to temple once a month (with the concession that we can miss a month once and we can carry over once (go twice the next month)).
  • Have family prayer everyday (at least 5 times a week).
  • Remember everyone's birthday in both our families (4 parents, 10 siblings, 20 grandchildren and 7 in-laws). - Lauren only
  • Learn to use my sewing machine. -Lauren only
  • Exercise 10 times a month (can carry 2 over to the next month) -Lauren only
Notice that I have to leave a little room for failure so that I don't abandon all hope the minute I fall behind. It may seem a little weak sauce, but I think it is realistic.

"The ultimate measure of success is not in achieving goals alone but in the service you render and the progress of others."
-PMG p. 146

Those all look like valuable goals, and it sounds like you are being realistic too. Happy New Year!

I actually really like the carry over idea as a buffer. I might borrow it sometime. :)
