True Confession

(picture has nothing to do with post, just a joke by Luke's uncles...poor kid didn't even notice he was the butt of the joke)

Are you ready? It is perhaps my biggest weakness and I absolutely HATE it.

I get WAY too easily caught up in stories. It doesn't matter if it is a book or a show...whatever format it is in, I am quick to get addicted and MUST know what happens in the end. Some people can't say no to chocolate, others can't say no to a good sale, Luke can't say no to an electrical outlet...I guess we all have something.

Because I know this about myself, I really try to avoid TV shows and books that are a part of a series (like Twilight, Harry Potter, etc.). If I succumb to temptation, I end up finishing a book and looking around only to see that I haven't showered in a few days, I'm sleep deprived, my house is a mess, and Luke is still in his pajamas. I HATE IT. (and yes, hate is a strong word).

Andrew doesn't help the situation. He loves to bring home TV shows that are on DVD because he "heard from a friend" that they were good. The difference is that Andrew doesn't have my weakness. He watches a couple episodes, agrees that it is pretty good, comments that it is a pity that he really doesn't have any time to keep watching, trudges on up to bed, and it is all over for him. I try to do the same, but it just bugs me, not knowing what the end is.

This week, my dear sweet husband who was trying to help me cope with a bad case of the flu/cold (that said flu/cold...nope, not pregnant), brought home Friday Night Lights from the library (that was for you, Mike and Linzi). Less than a week later, I've finished season 1 and wonder how I managed to waste a whole week of my life. (not that it wasn't good, but a whole season probably shouldn't be watched in one week. I didn't watch while Luke was awake, which means a lot of sleep was lost). I think I might have even started talking with a Texan accent last night...

So I'm writing off all TV shows on DVD and books that are a part of a series. Some people, like me, just can't handle it. (p.s. it actually was a pretty good show, especially if you had a coach in high school who changed your life...you'd appreciate it.)

You're hilarious! I'm totally the same way. Did I ever tell you that when we first started watching 24 (and then again with Lost), we would finish an entire season over a Fri/sat? Not good for our health, I'll tell you that much. Every time we'd be groggy on Sunday and ask ourselves "why'd we do that? Let's never do that again." but the next week, there we were... cuz we just had to know what happened!

Lauren, I have the exact same problem, only I don't even have the courage to say I'm not going to start series anymore. Just ask Jon, because of me he's come to dislike things like CSI, 24, Harry Potter etc. Maybe Jon and Andrew can start a support group for the spouses of people like us.

Yet another person with the same problem checking in; glad to know I'm not the only one!

Seriously isn't it the best show ever?! But you really have to keep watching. It just gets better and better and this season is probably the best yet. And I have a HUGE crush on Riggins. Good part is, Cort has a man crush on him too so its ok.

Lauren, this problem must run in our family because I just watched 8seasons of an Australian series called "Mcleod's Daughters". Every chance I got I was watching it because I had to find out what happened next. I would say the first 4 years were the best and then it kept repeating story lines. I love a good series like that, when you can find them, because you start to appreciate the characters. The only problem is when you go too far like when I started watching the series "Monarch of the Glen" (another great series from Scotland) I started to wish that I lived in their little town and I felt like I knew those characters so well that we could be friends. I know it is very sad!!! I hope you never get that wrapped up in a series!
Love you! Michele
