Fearless

I think he remembers the old carseat. He seems so excited to play with it.

Luke was on a hunger strike but has been making a comeback ever since I started letting him feed himself. He's pretty good with a spoon.

Yesterday, Luke was electrocuted (he can take the plastic things off the outlets), fell off the kitchen chair and hit his head (happens 9 times out of 10), and (drumroll, please) fell down the entire flight of stairs rolling head over heels. Needless to say, by the end of the day (when the stairs happened) I was emotionally drained and cried for about 20 minutes straight (My tears even outlasted Luke who somehow survived the mishap with only a black eye). The last fall of the day will forever remain one of the most horrifying things I have ever witnessed in my life.

I considered taking him to the hospital (I wonder if they would have thrown me in the slammer when they found out about all his life-threatning events that day). but he was acting normal and, unfortunately, I know from previous experience the signs of a concussion or skull fracture and he didn't appear to have any of them. So to stay sane until Andrew returned my message, I went over to my neighbor's house. It just so happened that her husband is a resident and so I felt a little more relaxed having a doctor nearby. I commented that I think Luke just might be a little clutsy. My neighbor corrected me and called it fearless. I'm glad that he put a positive spin on it because it helped to snap me out of my negative mood.

Friends, Luke is fearless! Because of his great courage and tenacity to never give up no matter how many times he bumps his head or electrocutes himself, I have put the following actions into effect:
  • All chairs are officially being held hostage in the basement until Mom chills out a little. Until further notice, we are eating "Japanese style" on the floor.

  • The baby gate at the top of the stairs is back in commission even though Luke has been going up and down stairs for about 6 months.
  • All electrical cords have been confiscated (at least during the fearless one's waking hours). This might heavily reduce our computer time and my phone may or may not be charged at any given moment.
  • The bathtub will always be drained while Luke is still in it. (Last week, after Luke took his bath and put on his pajamas, he ran into the bathroom and heaved himself over the edge of the tub to take another dip. Luckily, Andrew was right there to pull him out.

I try to laugh about it because if I didn't laugh, I would still be crying. Luke must have a LOT of angels watching out for him. They've been working overtime lately.

Wow, I'm worried my boy isn't too far behind. Day 2 of crawling he stuck his fingers in the light socket. Boys sure are crazy.

Oh, Lauren. I know I shouldn't, but I totally laughed at this post. I guess I have taught myself to laugh in stressful/awkward situations. But you're not alone, nor are you a negectful parent. Maybe Will is teaching him some bad behavior...Keep your chin up Lauren. You're doing a great job, no matter how many bruises your baby has.

I'm worried that "hanging out with Logan" will make it onto that preventive list you have going on there. Yesterday, he learned how to climb up on the arm rests of the our couch and jump onto the couch. Now he's jumping from the couch to the coffee table and vice versa. I will try to contain him whenever we're together ... because I still want to see you!! Please don't give up on us yet!!

Sometimes we just want to lock them in their room until they 30, huh? Some days are like that...you go ahead & cry!

I hope Luke is o.k. I remember those days..in fact I still have those days. Especially with three boys! I remember praying that they would make it to adulthood.

I have to comment on Luke's highchair tray. I've been trying to stay on my diet and when I started reading your blog I was a little hungry but after looking at that tray I think I'm not so hungry anymore!!!! Love you guys!!!
